Hi Sue As the virtual tour told me I could advertise at writerlink I decided to give it a go. Nowhere could I find anything about small ads. But I did find the marketplace link and realised that is the small ads part of the site. So I described my book and quoted poems etc and submitted but found a red delete button and no "contact the writer" link I tried again with the same results. I tried a third time having edited the description as it seemed there is a length limitation (though I cannot find that specifid either on the site or in the tour). Still all I get is red delete button so I tried yet again and this time edited to only three lines as everyone else has three lines. But did it work? No! I still get the option to delete. And that's it. No other options! So please what am I doing wrong? Or is it the site that is wrong? Thanks wordsart

I want to delete a comment I made on the arena, but when I open 'edit posts', it only shows older posts. The one I want to delete is not shown. Is this a known bug? Can anything be done about it?

Can I (or you) edit the SUMMARY in a posted article on Arena? I have just submitted a story but left some rubbish at the end of the summary which may confuse readers.

when I click arena poetry, I get the full page but no information in the centre display. However, if I scroll to the bottom, hanging down outside the main table, I see most of the content. If I then click on one of the genres, it appears in the table as it should. (well most of the genres do). How can I get the main poetry arena panel to display?

How is one supposed to register a change of e-mail address when you have to log in in order to contact Admin, but have also forgotten the password? I submitted chapter 1 of my novel,= Annabelle. The Vampire of St Valentines Day, and so far have recieved good reports. I'd love to shair Ch 2 but it involves a sex scene. it aint exactly explicit, u do know wat their up to, but the problem is i cant really leave it out coz what happens in it is vital to that part of the story. what exactly is the limit for this kind of material, or would you rather not have it at all. is there somewhere i can send it for you to review it first before placing it in the arena? if so that would be very helpfull.

Hi Sue Is there a limit of 10 reviews per submission to Arena? Arena Guidelines (posted 16 November) state that a piece of work needs to gain a minimum of 40 stars from a maximum of 10 reviews during a 10 day period to gain Spotlighted status. I had 38.5 stars in ten reviews and accepted the fact that my piece wasn’t good enough – then I got Spotlighted on the eleventh review … ? Please put my guilty feelings to rest, one way or the other! I'm trying to submit a poem to the 'All you need is love' contest, but keep getting an error message telling me my title is too short. Hie Sue I've asked this question a few days ago, but it appears to have gone adrift in the ether. The answer to a previous question was in order to qualify for Spotlight/Resources status writers had to stack up forty stars for one piece of work. Does this mean I can edit a story and resubmit and the previous stars would be added to a fresh batch and so on until I accrue forty stars for that piece of work? Hope this makes sense. Tony

Hello, One or two things have come up, that I can't find comments on in the FAQs etc, and may be of interest to others. Firstly, is there a copyright statement anywhere? I ask because, having submitted an unpublished work, it dawned on me that I didn't know whether I should now give writelink a first publication note if it goes elsewhere, secondly because I'm researching for an article on writers' rights in a changing world, and the writelink view would be interesting. Next point: I had a piece spotlighted this week, and was really chuffed, but also disappointed because I'd wanted to say a thank-you to those who reviewed it, and can't see how to do so now it's moved. Is there a way, other than seeking them all out in the member-list? Final point: I'm getting quite a few 'page unavailable' notices as I move around the site. Is this my server, or hitches due to recent move?

Re: 272 Thanks for reply. I must say I'd never realised there was an Arena Home Page - but just found it. Still can't find the January Newsletter! Did I get one? Is there a copy on site somewhere? The last newsletter I received was just before Chrismas. I seem to recall writing in to say I was getting more than one copy of earlier newsletters. I didn't think I had any work at present still on the site - unless it refers to a 'Famous Grouse' entry. I have just received an email saying that my story in the Arena has been spotlighted, but I can't see the comment because the story does not appear to be there anymore. Also, I asked why I couldn't see the poetry section in the Arena, just a plain green screen, and it was suggested that I close my Favourites box. However I still can't see it, and my Favourites box isn't open, nor is anything else. Thanks, Jan Green (Freaky).

I can't read anything in the Arena Poetry section - a plain green empty screen comes up every time at the moment. As I put a poem on there yesterday, I'm concerned that time might run out before anyone has the chance to review it, or that I won't be able to see any reviews of it or review anyone else's work.

how can you make ur work in arena more clearer - it wont let us use the tab par so i cant put indents in my work no matter how far i push the words away to the right using space bar when it is submitted it still comes out all left aligned - it makes reading harder cos then all the words are pushed together and on top of each other. Surely there is a way to solve this.

I would really like to spend more time reading other people's work, but being on-line in Portugal costs loads of mney... Is there a way of reviewing off-line?

Hi, I notice that whenever I use quotation marks in a comment I leave, the punctuation is converted to "e etc. How do I include quotes then? Suggestion: Please change the spelling of "Catagory" written twice on this ticket page to CatEgory. Thanks! Hasmita

I keep getting email to say my work has been commented on by another writer - sometimes 5 or 6 emails, often with a few days between each. When I look I can find no further comments. Is this a blip on the email programme which is sending multiple copies or is there somewhere else I should be looking for these comments?

Hi Sue, it would be good to be able to reply individually to those who post comments on work submitted instead of doing a blanket reply in the arena. Is there any way I can reply without having to traul through the entire membership list for their name and then send them a personal message. By the time I've found them, I've usually forgotten what I was going to say! Another thing, is it possible to keep those comments on screen while composing a reply - like I said, I read points that I would like to reply to, but forget them while searching.

I have an existing account, but the system prompts me to login everytime I want to check out a specific section on the left hand side menu. It's frustrating having to go through the whole process each time. I am not sure if I have Reader status or Writer status- I had a previous log in and password which I had forgotten totally so re-registered. I paid for the last log in to Writer status but am not sure if it still valid. My membership number was Jul03002wlp which I think means my membership has expired? Perhaps you can confirm for me. Where can I find the results and reviews for competitions that are over e.g. Fangs for the Memory Competition ?

I used to be registered as a writer but for various reasons, mainly that I wasn't actually writitng anything for the site, let it lapse to a reader. Now I find I can't access any of the pages on the site at all and I can only log in by going to 'Personal profile', if I try to log in at the 'Member Login' in the top corner I just get a message about 'only members can access'. When I log in from the personal profile all my details are there and correct. All i want to do is read articles and so on at the moment. Jennifer

Hi Sue, I was just wondering can you achieve Spotlight status for a piece that is entered in an ongoing competition? One of my stories in the 'Fangs for the memory' competition got more than 40 stars from 10 reviewers. Does this mean I get upgraded? Thanks a mill! MT

I am trying to submit a story to the Fangs for the Memory competition. I am trying to copy and paste the body of the text from Microsoft Word. But when I submit it, all the quote marks come out as gobbledogook and I have to delete the submission and try again. How do I get round this? Thanks for any help! MT

Hi Sue, I am having quite a few problems lately when logging onto Writleink - I am no longer automatically signed in and when going to Arena this morning I have a list of titles and cannot click on these so cannot view Arena atall. Hi it has been mentioned to me by another member that when trying to review my article Mae Hen Wlad........ it's not possible because there is no space to write a review, the piece has only received 8 reviews and I believe 10 is the max, if the extra 2 have the same amount of stars this has the possibility to be spotlighted and I would like the opportunity for that to happen, any help or explanation much appreciated thanks!

Hi Sue, I submitted an article last night for the September "Hacking It". When I hit the Submit button I got a "page not found" error. I've just posted a writing article to resources. I thought I'd be really brave and use bold text for my sub-headings. Does it come out right your end? All I can see is a message on the lines of "Replace this text..." but the original text is no longer visible to the author.

Many thanks for upgrading my membership and adding the month. Just thought you might want to know that the scroll boxes with the useful information (like the events diary listings) only appear once I've enlarged into a full window. I cannot access the majority of the site. This appears to be because I do not have a scroll bar, and I think the information appears further down the page. I do have a scroll bar for my profile page, but not for arena or other pages. I often receive a 'parse error' message too. Shelly

Hi Sue Twp comments rather than a question. 1.The update to the site has finally suppressed the advertising box which now allows me to view the first third of the page. 2. QuickPlot. O followed the link to downloads-zdnet.com without success. Unfortunately Quickplot is not on their list of downloadable programs. However, afer a bit of searching, my son found a site that does support Quickplot. - www.carl hose.com. My initial trial worked so I anticipate using it. Regards Geoff

Hi, I assumed that there would at least be a preview option when submitting my story (How to make it up to Julia?) to the arena. I pasted in some HTML to see if it would be accepted, clicked on submit and that's that! The story has been published with lots of nasty HTML in it and I am locked out from changing it. Please delete this ASAP as it looks desperately unprofessional. Surely I should be allowed to preview and edit my own work? I don't have too much time and wanted this over and done with. Also, once a story has been published, I should be able to go back to it to correct typos etc brought up in the crit/comment process, surely? And why only one story? Maybe one story a week would be a better soluton? Can you also explain to me why, after formatting a story in Word (e,g, italics, bold, font changes, etc) I have to repeat the same process in your very simple editor? Maybe I don't have to, if so, I would love to know how. Forgive me if I'm being a little bit naive, but I am a newbie to the site and a little bit confused...

Hi, I have recently joined Writelink and have paid a £15.00 subscription. I then posted a poem on the Arena section and very happily had several reviews which resulted in getting enough stars to have the poem spotlighted. I received an email stating that I had reached spotlight status and would like to submit a short story, however, when I tried out the publish link, there is a messageexplaining that I'm not able to because i have not reached spotlight status! Can someone please explain how the spotlight system works because I am confused.! I think in my profile box the spotlight should be highlighted and it isnt. Perhaps it is a glitch in the system or it may be that I have misunderstood the criteria for spotlight status. Please help! Thankyou.

I recently posted an article "A Day in the Life of a Writer". When I read the article, I realized that there was someting wrong. I wanted to edit the article. Are we allowed to do this? When I tried to click in to change my article, the site kept telling me that only editors can go in. The problem is when I tried to make something in bold print.
