Hello all,

My name is John and I've recently joined Writelink. I'm 70 yrs old and living on a small hill farm in the Derbyshire Peak District. My wife and I have recently celebrated my Golden Wedding anniversary and we have three offspring and six grandchildren. I retired from the police force in the 1980s but spent a wonderful time as a CID officer and a protection officer for royalty and for the head of MI5. Since the l980s I've farmed livestock but in recent years I've just concentrated on horses. I presently have four carriage horses but previously had both Shires and Clydesdales which were worked on my small farm. The carriage driving has been purely for pleasure and leisure - not competition. My two other main leisure activities are writing and music. I began my writing with an auto-biography (and I forgot to include so much that I'm having to write a further edition) and then I published a fiction called 'A Surprising Legacy' which was partly a love story but centred around a travelling man and incorporated myths, legends and folklore of the Derbyshire/Staffordshire Peaks. I'm happy to say that it sold well and I recovered all my expenditure. Since then I have written a sequel called 'The Lightning Tree' which has not yet been published. Currently I'm working on a thriller. I play keyboards and the organ which I find a real stress-buster, and I'm currently attempting the accordion.

Hello and welcome to writelink, John. I've written this twice before and it has failed to post.

You have a good writing track record already: long may that continue. Anne

Greetings and welcome to a diverse group from around the world - mostly lurkers until a subjects strikes a nerve. I would certainly like to eyeball your law-enforcement flavored autobio, and will try to run down a copy. Over the years, in the news business, I've run into several lawmen turned writer, a few successfully. Currently I'm  a writer-buddy sounding board with  a local (North-Central Florida) recently retired game warden who spent 30 years chasing - literally - hunters, dopers and  poachers. Its a different take on crime. So, what do you do in your spare time ?  ;^))

That sounds a pretty busy retirement, John. Glad you have found time to join us. Sounds as if you would have plenty of scope for both articles and non fiction titles but like the sound of combining local myths and legends into your autobiographical titles. Look forward to reading your contributions to the site.
