hi - sorry for delay in answering -  my heel had a fight with some greengage juice and lost - been feeling sorry for myself ever since!!  - can't price it yet - am going to printers in couple of weeks - have at last managed to produce a cover i like the look of - got my first free mention - in the newsline of the choir i go to - and the flyers are almost ready for general distribution - haven't ruled out lulu yet - it was the 'greeness' of these local guys i liked the sound of - ethical printing -however if the unit cost is too high might have to rethink!

my next problem is trying to set up a web site - have been trying to find  a 'green' one that has everything i want - trouble is dont understand what they are offering - ah well back to web site for dummies!!!

There are lots of print on demand publishers out there if your own printers are too expensive. You can buy a range of packages at very reasonable cost. Most will even list the book with all the major retailers including Amazon and give you an ISBN.

Most of them will print in single copies too.

I self published a poetry book with a friend using a local printer some years ago (I was the illustrator that time around)- the best quote we could get - and if we hadn't had a grant, then it would not have been affordable. As it was, the £500 covered the cost and the couple of thousand we made went straight to the Retreat we were raising money for.

I wouldn't entertain having to pay up front for anything but an ISBN these days - I can't afford to. That said, I had a free ISBN package with Lulu when I self published my short story collection a while back - and that's on Amazon as a result.
