THE GEORGE ROBB (the Aberdeen fishing trawler December 1959 )

The George Robb fishing trawler perished near the Duncansby Head Cliff's only fifty yards from shore, one of the crew escaped from the storm but died from exposure. He was found in the morning as rescue team searched for the Aberdeen trawler, his other eleven shipmates all perished in the raging storm Three of the men were finished work for the holidays and joined the trawler as crew for extra money for the Christmas holidays. Also lost was the coast guard in charge of Wicks Shore Rescue Crew, who collapsed and died from a heart attack, when he was hurrying carrying rocket lines to the cliff tops. The crew men on this last voyage were all hoping for a large catch and a Christmas bonus they were looking forward to Christmas, and Hogmanay, holiday. No one knows what went wrong on the last voyage of the trawler only the last message read”Making water rapidly require immediate assistance “ on that last voyage the tragedy took the lives of twelve men who were ,husbands, fathers and brothers to there loved ones left behind.

I have taken some of this information from the'Daily Express' but knew most of it because my husband lost his brother on the last voyage of the George Robb fishing trawler.

New layer...
