Back in May I got started doing The Write Invite Write on Site competitions, then summer got in the way.

But today I entered again: I haven't a hope of winning - the stories there are really of a very high quality - but it's such fun! You just go to the site on Saturday afternoon, pay three pounds through Paypal, and be ready to start at 5.30. You get three prompts to choose from, and half an hour to submit your story.

Today, as ever, all the brilliant ideas that had been floating through my head for the last couple of days in preparation were totally unrelated to the prompts, and panic set in, but at last i thought of something and managed to submit in time. I usually get between 400 and 500 words down, but some of the 'pros' get 700 - 800- it's amazing. Go on try it - I can think of worse ways to spend three pounds! http://www.write-invite.com/write-on-site.php

To celebrate National Short Story Week, our online group, Writers Abroad, has published an anthology of short stories reflecting expat life. We were delighted to have the support of Writelink's own Lorraine Mace, who wrote the foreword. Have a look here to read a PDF copy: http://writersabroad.spruz.com/gfile/75r4!-!GKIMKD/writes_abroad_anthology_of_short_stories.pdf

And let us know what you think!
