everyone remembers from the speech of the first Roman Catholic and the first

may not have been Kennedy’s best; some say that was his American

June 1963 when he called for the re-examination of the cold war, the country’s

and the meaning of peace. This was after he had unilaterally declared a
suspension of American nuclear testing in the atmosphere.</span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 27pt; line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><span>Kennedy
had invited Robert Frost to write a poem for the inauguration. Although it was
a bitterly cold day, the blinding sun meant that the 86-year-old Frost was
unable to read the typed copy of the poem he had written. Instead Frost ended
up reciting his poem, ‘A Gift Outright’, from memory, beginning with the line:</span></span></p>
