Congratulations on your poetry win, well done. I agree with Solita, it's a publicity stunt. As poet laureate, it would be better to be celebrating words, not the demise of them. I'll never use lol or cul8er, though I just did. It's not for me, I love the old poetry by Wordsworth, or Patience Strong or Dylan Thomas. Under milkwood is one of my favorites of his. No, texting isn't poetry.

Can;t comment on C.A.D's POV because I have nothing to do with poetry. The problem with text shorthand is there is no standard. Anything and everything goes, as long as the recipient can understand it. My feeling is that it goes a lot further back than text messages. Medics and the Military have always been notorious for using simple shorthand to get the message across.

I think it's an interesting point of view. I used to loathe the texting abbreviations and so on, but now I've got used to them and use them myself on texts often as they save time and money. and anyrthing that encourages youngsters to be creative can't be all wrong, surely.

What rubbish, when texting is usually a form of horrible abbreviations and garbled information. I presume she's looking for publicity. So fed of of the beauty of words being destroyed by adaptation to modern living.

I sincerely hope Carol Ann Duffy is wrong!
