Are You a Tree Hugger?

A month ago I would have answered no to that question. But now, if I'm truthful, I can't. Every morning, about fifteen minutes after I get out of bed, you can find me with at least one arm around a particular tree that's at the end of the little wooded area where I take Jade for her early morning toilette.

The first thing I do when I get up is pull on some clothes and then we are out the door. I'll have pulled on my wellies on the way too in this weather. We pound the pavement for about 50 yards and then cross to the footpath alongside the metal fence that surrounds the rectangular children's play area. After traversing two sides of that, we enter the wood and she careers around mostly with her nose to the ground while I move sedately along the footpath.  When I reach said tree, it's time turn around and return home. I started to touch it before turning back, then felt compelled to put my arm around it and circle it. Now I have to give it a hug and say good morning.

Fortunately there haven't been people around to witness my early morning madness. Yet.

Not sure what I'd think if I saw someone hugging a tree while I was out walking the dogs. Maybe that they were hung over or something lol. But good for you. If it makes you feel better for some reason keep doing it :-)

I love the thought of hugging a tree, but haven't yet done it myself. I've just read a delightful book called 'Dream Forest', by Dalene Matthee, in which the main character hugs a tree. I had to read it more than once to really appreciate where the main character's at and get into her skin. Once there, I could relate to her way of off the wall thinking that plants have feelings. Hug that tree, Jeanne!

LOL....What type of tree have you grown an affinity with? I hope it's a good strong indigenous variety, not just some self setting interloper!

I think that given todays society are too wrapped up in their own little worlds, they probably wouldn't notice if you hugged the tree in the all together.

The only time you need to worry is if the tree hugs back and starts talking to you!

Can't say I've physically hugged one, Jean, but I can fully appreciate the sentiment behind it. Lemon gums are particularly enticing

Well, today you really would need to hug that tree or hang on to it in this gale.
