Most "publishers" of children's books prefer (insist) on using THIER in-house or pet illustrators. If you can't find anything on line, you MIGHT be able to convine a local art class: students and/or weekend painters, to respond to a shared by-line (FAME) as an exercise. If YOU provide, say, a stick-figure suggested scene - an artitist/illustrator should be able to extrapolate. If push comes to shove...check in with your local tattoo parlor. The results should scare the kiddies off their porridge for a month!

Yes Jean it is something worth looking into. Off the top of my head though, I can't see an easy solution other than collaboration. There are plenty of excellent illustrators about, but they quite naturally want paying the going rate which for a book with no guarantee of publication can be prohibitive.

My project isn't a book though so I'm getting some prices together and will probably go for it. If it all works out I'll let you know how I got on, if not, I'll be scrubbing floors for a bit!

I hope everything works out all right, Jean. I'm at the doctor's tomorrow morning for a stomach bug. I've been suffering for over a week now, and I've had to stick to the rules. No contact with any other members of the human race other than the missus, and she hasn't caguht it.

You're welcome, Jean.

Jeanne, no you don't need a kindle. The point of putting it on Smashwords is to cater for those who use e-readers other than the Kindle. The Nook, iPhones and even pdf's for reading on a computer.

One of the big problems with e-books is everyone automaticaly thinks "Kindle." and although it may be the best know, it's not the only one. There are about 20-30 different readers, and most of them use a different format to the Kindle. Smashwords caters for them all.
