Have yourself ....

A Very Merry Christmas!

A poem for all my friends; my wish for everyone is for them to find peace within their own selves, enough to last 2009 and beyond.

A Christmas poem for you all, with love ...

Feathers

(Snow in Bethlehem)

We woke and saw,
through the window,
feathers falling. Our town,
silenced and still, looked new
to our eyes, as though it had been iced.

My mother, in her knowing voice,
reassured: ‘It’s goose feathers -
A long time ago in our town
a special boy was born. Now, in England,
many geese are being plucked
to celebrate his birthday’.

My father, in his pompous way,
disagreed: ‘I believe you will find
these feathers to be from a far wiser bird,
the owl, signifying the visit to our town
of three learned men who brought
gifts for the special boy’.

I ran out into the streets of our town.
I let the feathers fall
from the grey clouds onto my face
and felt their caress.

And then, from behind the silence, I heard
such a rare, sweet song that
I knew, I was sure: In our town, today,
these feathers were falling
from the wings of angels.
