WELCOME TO FLORIN
It’s been a very hectic few days to say the least, but the good news is we’ve five new arrivals on the farm including this cute little lassie …

Florin is a British White heifer calf who we hope will form part of our new cattle herd. We’ve kept cattle for years, but these have always been continental cross breeds. Most of these have grown old and now gone to the great meadow in the sky so we thought we’d replace them with British Whites.
This is a very old breed noted for its distinctive markings. The nose, eyes, ears and feet are black. It is derived from an even older breed known as White Park cattle. If you get the chance, you can see some of these in a very ancient setting at Chillingham in Northumbria. When we went, we had to be taken by landrover as they were miles from anywhere.
Our little Florin and her mum, Silver are a bit more pampered than that, but are still hardy types. This pair join, Isabelle another British White and her son who remains nameless!

Silver & Florin
To complete our little herd, we purchased Icarus at the Melton Mowbray Native Breeds show and sale which took place last Friday and Saturday. Although a big, musclely chap, so far he has proved to be a big softy. Hope he stays that way! ![]()

Comments, Pingbacks:
Caz, it pays to be careful around any animal, but it's unusual for cows to attack anyone unless you try to interfer with their calves of course. Bulls should always be treated with respect.
Funny, Marc, Icarus struck me as looking a bit like a buffalo!
