Unexpected Success!

Would you believe it? After years of advising people not to expect too much from self publishing fiction, the novel I co-wrote with 13 other authors as part of last year's arts festival has almost sold out its first print run!

[More:]

It was only released just over a week ago and is only on sale through the local tourist info centre, but according to the nice lady that runs it, they are down to their last 3 copies and would like to order another 50!

Think I'd better start pounding the keys for a sequel! :)

Well done, Sue. What's the novel called and what's it about?

Congratulations to you and everyone else involved! You make light of it, but I bet a lot of hard work has gone into making it that successful, not least the quality of the writing in the first place.
PS Don't get RSI pounding those keys!

Thanks both! It's called the Killing Tree and is a spoof detective story set in and around Ashby which is why it is selling so well according to the "nice lady at the TIC!"

Yes a lot of hard work did go into it, managing 13 other writers being the hardest part!

The main thing I got out of it was I now know how to write a novel fairly painlessly, just need a good idea and some time!

Now why do I think that last part (time) might be the hardest of all! Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I really ought to be blogging our experiences as it is something that could be replicated almost anywhere. In fact it has already led on to our next book, much shorter this time and only 3 of us working on it. Written in double quick time and will be published in time for this year's arts festival.

I'll keep you posted on how we get on with it!

Congratulations, Sue - and to your co-authors, too. I bet you had some fun along the way. Here's to the next one, and plenty of sales!

Thanks Mater, yes we did! Working out the plot was the best bit. It involved several Thursday evenings with a couple of glasses of red wine! Definitely aids the creative process!
