What A Night!

Funny how a throw away remark can lead to some amazing opportunities!

[More:]

I'd been chairing the Ashby Arts Festival committee for some months as well as organising two of the literary events when I just happen to mention at the end of one of the meetings that The Killing Tree, a collaborative novel written by 14 of us from last year's festival was about to be published and wouldn't it be a good idea to use it to launch this year's festival.

The idea was seized upon by our marketing committee who organised a book and festival brochure launch at a wine and nibbles party for everyone that was involved in last year's festival and the 07 event. We had about 60 of the good and the great turn up including the mayor!

Best of all though, we sold 21 copies of the novel and I've had a tentative booking to run a workshop at one of the local visitors centres. Not only that, it also looks like I've got some actors lined up to play the parts in a short review I'm involved in. All in all a great evening, networking really does pay, try it some time. :D

Not this time Sarah! Thanks! Yes lots of avenues opening up at the moment, some of them a bit scary!

Scary Halloween? Scary, possibly too big to chew? Or scary new?
I'm a big scaredy-cat myself - but nothing ventured, nothing gained! Good luck!

Too big to chew and scary new I'd say!

Can you share the bigness/risk with someone else? (Hope that doesn't sound dodgy!)
Otherwise, I guess it's a case of weighing the risks of how much you have to gain if it goes well, and how much you could lose if it doesn't, plus how likely it is to go well ie though new and big is it within or just outside your range of experience/skills etc, something completely new (which you could therefore be astonishingly good at but just don't know it yet) or something you already know isn't a strong point for you.
Whatever, good luck with it/deciding and it is certainly true that nothing ventured, nothing gained and you have to speculate to accumulate - both financially, creatively and any other way I can think of.

My goodness Sarah, have you thought of becoming a counsellor? Sounds like you have the knack! Basically I've just too many opportunities flying around at the moment, some big and some minor so I'll have to make a few life changes in the next few months if I'm to pursue some of them!

I think I give too much advice to be a good counsellor!
Well, I'm hoping none of the opportunities/life changes will be bad news for us writelinkers. But at the end of the day everyone has to do what's best for them and their family so good luck, it sounds exciting!

Don't worry, any changes I make will be beneficial to Writelink! Take a look at the new blog I've just set up - Miss Hale's Diary - it would be great if you could carry this on, we're nearly ready to release the blogs to the main membership so it would be good to have this established - it's supposed to be a bit of fun and illustrates one of the things you can do with a blog!

I've just had a go and added a new entry. It's quite a useful writing exercise for trying to keep in character - though I'm not sure I succeeded. I've definitely had some fun though! I'm sure it could prove very popular. The experimental forum games/group writing threads are pretty popular, though this does involve writing a little more than most of them

Just to add Sue that though I can edit my entry to Miss Hale's diary, I don't think I can moderate the comments.

Yes, it's always fun trying to write in character, I'm doing a lot of that at the moment as part of the Arts Festival. I can't see your entry ... have you published it yet or is it still in draft mode?

Re editing the comments. You should be able to do this now, I hadn't ticked all the boxes ... sorry!
