Another One Bites the Dust

Regular readers may remember me blogging about the fact that West Midlands creative writing Raw Edge Magazine was under threat of losing its Art Council funding.

[More:]

Sadly, last week I received my copy of the final issue after the magazine publishers' appeal against the decision was unsuccessful, despite the volume of support sent to the arts council. It is a blow that I feel particularly keenly, as I have been published in past copies of the magazine and also because I remember its early days, 13 years ago, when I enjoyed it as a student and reader, long before seriously considering poetry or short fiction writing myself.

On a more positive note, some of those at Raw Edge Magazine are involved in a newish website featuring live transmissions of poetry, prose, storytelling, short plays, spoken word, music tracks, original music...Radio Wildfire's monthly live show is from 8pm to 10pm on the first Monday of the month and then plays on a continuous loop.

Commiserations, Sarah.

I never cease to be amazed at where the money does, or doesn't, go.

It's a shame when a good mag goes down. It's a good thing we have the web as costs are so much less than print. Thanks for the weblink Sarah, looks interesting.

I've not had a proper listen yet unfortunately - major lack of time at the moment with sports days, end of term etc - but looking at past contributors I'd imagine there's some good stuff.

I'm sorry to hear about the demise of the magazine, Sarah, but glad to hear that they are keeping it up on the net, albeit in a different form. At least they haven't gone all together!
