Angles

It's been a week of new angles on life for me and I'm hoping they'll all turn out to be right angles.

[More:]

Judging the writelink write angles poetry competition was my first job as an adjudicator. I really enjoyed reading all the entries but boy did I feel the weight of responsibility on my shoulders trying to pick out just one winner! The challenges of the form were also brought home to me when I blogged my own right-angled triangle shape poem to mark my nephew's birthday. I found that what looked like a triangle in my post back-office, no longer looked like a triangle front end, so I had to fiddle around with the line lengths a lot after first publishing it. Still, I hope the changes improved the poem as a whole as well as its shape.

After writing my judge's report for the contest, I couldn't quite believe it when I went into help at my son's school today and found that my year two class were doing right angles! Coincidence it may be, but I'm taking it as a good omen for this and other new angles to my life, like becoming writelink poetry forum topic leader and taking on the role of marketing officer on my younger son's pre-school committee.

While the sun is still shining I also had some good news from Earlyworks, as one of my poems was shortlisted (top 10) in the press' open poetry contest and is set to be published in a new anthology, along with my poem which came second in the Earlyworks web poetry contest last year. I just hope the sunshine lasts, literally and poetically!

Congratulations, Sarah! I don't see the write angles resukts yet. Since no angles af any sort inspired me, I just read all the entries and have my own winner and shortlist of four: am wondering whether they coincide at all with yours!
