Picture Perfect

All my buses are definitely arriving at once. A beautiful sunny day for yesterday's town festival, the boys at their grandparents so we could enjoy our first cinema trip in months and the latest issue of Orbis, complete with one of my poems inside!

[More:]

Although only little in the grand scheme of things, having a poem published in Orbis is a real confidence boost for me because I've never been published there before and I've been trying to break into new poetry markets, so to speak, for some time now. Editor Carole Baldock was also very helpful with editing suggestions and allowing me to be involved in the final proofing for my poem.

It was St Richard's Festival in our town yesterday. (I'm not quite sure why but something to do with brine, which was the town's industry historically, and his blessing bringing good fortune.) There were well dressings, street musicians, fire eaters, medieval knights, stalls, canal trips and lots more. The weather was fantastic and the boys really enjoyed it. I also managed to get a few pix, maybe ones for the town photo competition. My only problem is that with the boys in them, it's hard to appreciate them objectively. I just think they look so cute. It's impossible to decide which I like best!

Talking of photography, we celebrated our seventh anniversary with a cinema trip to see In Bruges. It's a slow starter but I really enjoyed it. It was funny, with some fantastic cinematography. I must admit I may be biased though, as I love Bruges, tourist cliche though that may be. Anyway, back to reality today and true bank holiday weather - pouring it down with rain!

Glad to hear you had a nice day, and congratulations on the Orbis success.

Yes, similar weather here, beautiful weather on Saturday and rain on Sunday; worked out well for me as well, as was off work on Saturday and spent it in a couple of beer gardens, and was working yesterday through the rain!

Congratulations! You may think Orbis is small in the scheme of things, but from where I'm sitting (nowhere!) getting poetry published is amazing. I'm sure you'll be well up the published-poets ladder in no time.

Thank you all.
Helen, I'm definitely chuffed. I guess I mean I and my work seem small in the grand scheme of things rather than Orbis itself. Still the best way to climb a ladder is one rung at a time!
Paola, more about my anniversary in a new blog. It's actually today but we went out on Saturday cos the boys have pre-school/school tomorrow so couldn't stay over at their grandparents tonight. But on Saturday, they stayed over so we also got Sunday morning. Hurrah!
Marc, Beer gardens are great in the fine weather, aren't they? One of things I miss since having kids is the opportunity to just relax and laze sunny afternoons away chatting and drinking. Oh, well, wouldn't change anything for the world, of course!

Congrats on your anniversary Sarah and Orbis. Getting a poem in the small press mags is a real feather in your cap as they really put the emphasis on quality.

Thanks, Sue. Yes, I do rate Orbis as a step-up for me, so to speak. It was also really nice, and very useful, to have some editorial feedback from Carole Baldock.

Congratulations on the publication Sarah! From the comments it seems to be quite a feat, so well done.
