Three years too late!

It's been busy for me lately, mostly celebrating my thirtieth birthday - three years too late.

[More:]

Although my birthday fell on Easter Sunday this year (the only time that's likely to happen in my lifetime!), celebrations started early this year when my mum came down in the week to take me shopping and for lunch. We had an exhausting but successful day as I am now managing to fit into size ten jeans for the first time in fifteen years. Hurrah! (Definite proof though that clothes sizes have changed, as I know I am definitely not as small, nor as light as the last time I was a size 10!)

Anyway to get to the three years late, my husband had promised me a luxury weekend away for my thirtieth three years ago. I was five months pregnant at the time and not overly delighted (!) when it then turned out that despite booking the time off he'd also agreed to go away on a work conference that weekend and it was too late to cancel! I have never let him forget it (of course!)and this year he finally tried to make it up to me by taking me away for a fantastic luxury spa break.

Although we were only gone 24 hours, I managed to cram in a manicure, pedicure, facial and back massage. It was was also set in the most beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside, with a lovely ozone filtered/cleaned pool (the water is so much softer than when its chlorinated) and fantastic food. Our magnificent suite was in the clock tower (not chiming, thank goodness) and also had a spa bath. It was like a short glimpse of heaven!

However, despite all this pampering, life has not been a 'bed of roses'. I got caught in a short snow blizzard while jogging on Good Friday and seem to have hurt my back. Although I managed a little light swimming while we were away, I am now on enforced rest and am already getting exercise withdrawal symptoms! It is so frustrating!

Still, I suppose it all means more time for blogging and writing, and I haven't done much of either lately. Every cloud has a silver lining, as they say, though personally I'd prefer no clouds at all!

Hope everyone had a great Easter!

Congratulations on the weekend and other achievements, and welcome to the bad back club!

Congratulations and commiserations, Sarah. Your 24 hours sounds like bliss. Something to remember anyway.

Sounds like you had a good weekend, Sarah, and I hope the back trouble eases quickly.

This business of celebrating your birthday three years late. Does this mean I can legitimately celebrate my 21st next January. I was too drunk last time.

Thank you all! I have managed to get ab canncelled appointment today with an osteopath specialising in spiorts injuries. I'm a little worried about it doing more harm than good etc, but most people I know who've seen osteopaths say the pain gets worse but it does then get better. I also hope I'm not jumping the gun as it feels a bit better today. But I want to get back to exercise and it would be useful to know what's caused it and also whether I am better resting completely or whether it's actually better to keep using the muscles. Fingers crossed for the latter!
Yes, David, I think you can definitely celebrate your 21st next January, and every January - as I'm sure being too drunk is an obligatory part of the celebrations!;-)

Sarah I did my back in years ago picking up wet bales. It's been fragile ever since so I have to be careful. I find the best thing to do is rest it for a couple of days and then resume light exercise.

You'll soon find out that people who do a lot of exercise develop all kinds of injuries. Most people in our running club are physical wrecks!

Glad you enjoyed your pampering, the spa looks super!

Thanks Sue,
The osteopath has given me some exercises and other treatment. I'm not resting completely but am sticking to swimming and pilates for a while, and in smaller amounts than usual. Fingers crossed!
