Talking Flowers!

Yes, that's right, I am blogging about talking flowers: talking flowers and experimentation!

[More:]

Before anyone starts to get too worried about me (I've been mad for years!), I should probably explain that I have been enjoying the challenge of the latest writelink competition with two different pieces. One thing I love about these comps (in addition to the fact that they're free to writer members and one might just win the prize) is that they are great for practising specific types of writing (in this case dialogue). They are also excellent inspirational prompts, and this time I decided to be a little more adventurous than normal, hence the talking flowers. But if you want to find out more about that, check out all the entries in the arena chit-chat contest.

I have also been Easter bonnet making with my son, ready for the annual school parade, and spring cleaning the house, as I have promised to invite some of his friends round for an egg hunt. I shall not be indulging in chocolate myself this year though (fingers crossed!) as I am celebrating four stone of weight loss now, with just around another stone to lose. Hurrah!

Anyway, I may be shifting some of that in extra walking as my husband's clutch and throttle have gone (okay, okay, I know, not his clutch and throttle but the clutch and throttle on his car) so he's using my car. Still, it's all good for the environment, I suppose... ;-)

Congratulations on your health regime; very impressive.

I went on my first run since November today, although I have played 5-a-side football a couple of times this month.

It was nice to get out again, and I even enjoyed the wind and rain. It was only a 20 minute run, split into two, with ten minutes of walking in-between, but my back came through okay, so hopefully I'll be able to increase it soon.

Written quite a lot here, so think I'll make it into a blog. Thanks!

Oh, and say hi to the flowers from me!!

Hi Sarah. You constantly impress and amaze me! All that talent, all the ins, outs, ups and downs of busy motherhood and a four stone weight loss as well! You deserve a medal. Have you planned a huge celebration for when you reach your target?

I definitely agree about the writelink comps - they stretch the creative comfort zones as well as the imagination. I chickened out on this one though. I did write a couple of chit chats, but wasn't inspired by either of them so consigned them to the virtual rubbish.

Really well done, Sarah, you deserve a medal and not just for the weight loss, which shows amazing discipline in itself, but also for the excellent work via your writing too, which is always refreshingly interesting to read.

The talking flowers dialogue is brilliant - I love it! The standard of entries from the off set were of a very high standard and my effort in comparison was a non-starter so I didn't submit, but it may come in handy for something else.

If they have a monologue comp - that would be good...

Sarah I'm so impressed! I can't get rid of a pound! Enjoy the egg hunt, I'm afraid I'd have to have some of that chocolate!

Thank you all.
Helen and Marilyn, definitely keep your pieces for something else. That's another thing I like about the comps, if the piece doesn't turn out ready for that deadline, I can just keep it, work on it at a later date and use it somewhere else.
Marilyn, I love monologues, one of my entries was actually somehwere between a monologue and the dialogue as set out for this comp (it was a dialgoue but with only one person speaking).
I think the weight loss is helped by the fact that I have somehow become addicted to exercise. I write that with a laugh because I never thought it would be possible for me to become addicted to exercise!
Truth is though that most of the weight I've lost was weight I put on not during but after my second pregnancy. It's all will-power, only I don't really have control over turning that will-power on and off, if you know what I mean!

Well done for all of it, Sarah. I saw the talking flowers too and thought it was a very novel take on the competition.

Thanks Jean,
Yes, it was definitely a bit 'mad' but lots of fun and I think trying something different even when it doesn't come off is good for boosting my more normal creativity too.
