Inspired!

It's been a week of books and creativity. I have just started reading Michael Symmons Roberts' collection Corpus. It is fantastic and very humbling. (No surprise, I suppose, given it won the 2004 Whitbread Poetry Award!)

[More:]

I have also been busy trying to sort a costume out for my son to wear to school on Friday to mark Book Week. He wants to be a pirate and the brief is to dress the children as book characters, so I guess that will probably make him Captain Hook out of Peter Pan!

I also have to help him make an Easter Bonnet for school so we have been talking over ideas and buying bits and pieces for that. (I swear I get more homework than he does! Just as long as the school's not planning on giving marks for it!)

The canal has been looking stunning (the bits unadorned by rubbish!) and it appears the swans that nested here last year are using the old flattened nest as a base while they build their new nest. It is quite inspiring. I managed to capture a few pictures. I've put these two on here but the quality is better and there are more pictures at my MySpace.com page here.

Happy Mother's Day for tomorrow!

Nice pics Sarah. The swans remind me of a favourite children's book 'Lord of the Rushie River' (don't remember the author) in which swans 'adopt' a little girl & look after her while father is away at sea.

I must learn how to tart up my blog. Everyone else's looks far more interesting than mine does.

Happy Mother's Day to you, too. Beautiful photos! Hope you have a lovely day with your boys and that the pirate costume and the Easter bonnet making is fun and successful.
We're on our second day of celebrations - St David's Day and my hubby's birthday yesterday - and a steady stream of visitors throughout the day. I expect it will be much the same today. :-) Then tonight, I thought I might pick up Ted Hughes' Birthday Letters. The title is a little poignant for me, as it would have been my mum's 78th today.
Enjoy your day!

I suspect the canal is near to where you live, Sarah? How lovely. The photo of the swans is stunning.

And happy Mother's Day to you too!
