At least my son isn't a train!

Oh, the joys of being a parent in the run-up to Christmas! If it isn't cards and negotiating Santa's shopping list then it's nativity costumes and Christmas parties.

[More:]

Still, I appear to have come off light this year. My younger son's pre-school are providing his costume (I won't know what he is till I watch the performance) and my elder son is having his sheep costume provided by school, hurrah!

Some of his friends' parents haven't been quite so lucky, as they have to provide their children's costumes - a train and a snowflake, no less! (Yes, our minds were boggling at which version of the nativity includes a train at the stable! However, their 'play' is apparently entitled the Toy Shop, so we figure there may be some kind of extra storyline going on in addition to the traditional nativity!)

I have still had to get creative though, to help him produce a party hat for his Christmas party. (Roughly, translated 'help' means he tells me what he wants and I make it!) The end result is proudly modelled by 'Horse' here.

No costumes? Fantastic. I got off pretty lightly this year too with an angel and a narrator. I was glad the school provided the harvest festival costumes though - it's not easy producing a potato outfit at short notice!

Yes, what is it about schools and short notice! We've had about three days notice of special themes for their non-uniform day and about a 10days/2 weeks for nativity costumes. Not a lot at this time of year, particularly for mums who work too!

Brings back memories - especially of the year my daughter insisted that I didn't need to provide anything as she was going to wear a costume from the stock in school. It was only at bedtime on the eve of the performance that she remembered.
'Mum? Can you make me a beard for tomorrow?'
And, yes, of course I did!
Hope you all enjoy the plays.

My granddaughter Isabella is in the nativity play, although I'm not sure what she is. She said an angel, but then was vague about her costume but waxed enthusiastic about the 'square things' being draped over heads. Obviously for the shepherds.
I wait with baited breath and a box of tissues...

Isn't it amazingw hat we manage when we have to, Linda. I'm sure my boys will be like taht before long. I'm already totally reliant on the school letters for info as according to my son he does nothing with nobody all day long!
Hope it goes well, Dids. I'm sure she'll be fantastic.
