Magic Messages

I have just discovered the most fantastic site for readers, writers and anyone wanting to pick up tips on how to promote their own book.

[More:]

The site Your Messages is based on an experimental project by Lynne Rees and Sarah Salway, which they have turned into a book. The details are probably best explained on the website at http://writeyourmessages.blogspot.com/ . Each day this month, they are posting a 300-word extract to the site. People then have the chance to post their own exactly 300-word response to it (this is similar to the way their book was written).

For writers, there is the chance that their response may be chosen for a future booklet of the best 30 messages. For the reader, the 300-word extracts are very skillfully written and covering a wide and inspirational range of styles and topics.

And it's not just the original messages that are worth reading. I've not looked at all the responses yet, but those I have read are also extremely well-written. Responses by writers such as Oz Hardwick and Jan Fortune-Wood (writer and editor, Cinnamon Press, Envoi...) to the first message just leapt out at me.

I'm not kidding myself that my own attempts (I plan to post them tonight) will stand much chance of being chosen for the booklet but I've enjoyed reading the messages and as a writer it's worth penning a response just to see my work appear on the blog alongside work by such fine writers.
