Another thought re subscribing to blogs

I've had another thought re subscribing to blogs. This is really only relevant to anyone who is concerned about keeping their email address private.

I don't know if everyone is aware that the email addresses of people who have subscribed to their blog appear after they publish a post. (The screen that goes on about pinging people etc.)

Now this doesn't tell you who's email address is whose but if you have a fairly obvious email address eg my name@yahoo.com, then it will clearly be obvious whose email address that is.

Hopefully, most people won't be bothered about this but if anyone is they may want to get a new email address with a fairly obscure/vague address.

I use a hotmail address for the blogs. It deals well with spam and leaves your private address as exactly that. Private.

Yes, that's a good idea, David. I know other people who use hotmail in the same way. I have to say I'm not too worried about people knowing my email, but it is quite an obscure long phrase so probably not immediately identifiable as mine anyway, except to those who already know it!

I use the same address as the one on the main WL site. I don't mind having my email address on here, but if I start getting lots of spam as a result I'll change it.

Good point, Sarah. Can people who are not Writelink memebers (or members of our 'Blog coop')subscribe to our blogs?

Currently the answer is no non-members can't subscribe but I think at some point thsi will change.
It's not people subscribing that can see the email addresses though.
When you or I or anyone else publishes a new blog, a screen will come up saying it's notifying pingomatic etc and subscribers. It then lists the emails for these subscribers.
So your subscribers can't see your email adddress but you can see the email addresses for people who subscribe to your blog and I, for example, when I publish a piece see your email address among the list of my subscribers.
Hope that makes sense!

Not had any offers of nights of unbridled lust yet, so clearly something's amiss!

Maybe the missus has been vetting your email!

Sorry Paola, as my attempts at Lez's puzzles will show I've not had a particularly bright week!
I've just realised that when posts are sent to subscribers they do seem to have the email address of the blogger on them (rather than just saying they've been sent by the blog system). However that said some notifications/comments seem to come from bloggers and others from the blog system. Can we opt out maybe of showing our email addresses?
