House Prices!
Out of the mouth of babes, as they say.
In town the other day with my four-year-old son, I was idly looking in the estate agents' window at some lovely looking houses. They were all priced from around £250,000 to £350,000.
"I want Daddy to buy me that one!" he said, pointing to the most expensive. "Will he get it for me?"
"He'd better get one for me first!" I said, smiling.
"Don't worry,” he replied. “It only costs 99p!"
Well, in that case, I thought, we'd better buy a few! If only...Maybe I should get him to have a word with the Bank of England about interest rates!

Ouch, Marilyn. Schools do do awful things to house prices. I don't know how one gets round that though. The lottery systems of school places seems a silly idea to me, as one thing worse than my children not getting itno the best school is having them completely separated from friends. There's notrhing more confidence zapping than that. (It happened to me cos my parents moved when I was 11. It really changed my personality and level of confidence.) Of course, in an ideal world all our state schools would be excellent...
