Recycling rubbish!

Sometimes I just don't get recycling!I don't mean the principle itself. I'm a big fan of doing one's bit to try and combat climate change and the save the planet. But I don't understand why different areas seem to have such different ways of tackling the issue.

[More:]

Now, I don't want to get into the issue of devolution and the pros and cons of central government versus local government. But why do some areas collect glass from your home and others not? Why do some areas collect clothes only and others clothes and shoes? what makes some areas able to collect paper and cardboard for recycling, while others will only collect paper? And why are some authorities willing to collect tins and plastic together, while others want the public to sort them out first?

Perhaps some methods really do work better in some areas than they do others. But I can't help wondering if our ideas might not need as much recycling (though not reusing!) as our rubbish!

Do you know what Sarah, after reading this, I'm convinced it needs a woman's touch to put the whole re-cycling business on a realistic and productive future pathway to success.

I'd better not reply to that Marilyn, I'll only be accused of sexism!
