Love Bites
The poem I didn't enter for the writelink Battle of the Bards 24-hour contest on Saturday for reasons that will become obvious...
A funny take on the theme Omens and very much unfinished. (Given more time, I thik I'd have tried metre and rhyme.)
Love Bites
Call it hindsight, but I should have known.
I'd always swayed towards the wrong men;
though I didn't know that then.
I could have seen the signs, been clever,
and worked it out; taken things more carefully,
not just given way to lust.
Yes, I saw some similarities:
dark hair, wide smiles, eyes black holes to fall through
towards those perfect white teeth.
So they happened to be clumsy, losing blood
just like me. And the love bites?
Well, I've always liked it a little rough.
It wasn't till the autopsy and that newspaper's
bold front page headline:
Killer blood link – police hope to close in soon.
A sick feeling sucked my stomach.
I realised at last my danger
as Tom melted me in his embrace.
But it was too late then to change my victim.
Besides, 'o' men are the best, their blood tastes
so much sweeter, less salty than the rest.

I look forward to the next version.

Great title - Love Bites!
It makes a change to have a female predator/chupacabra and I think it'll be great when you've tweaked it to your satisfaction, Sarah!
