Glorious sun, dampened spirits!

Well, the sun lasted for the party in the park - not that it made any difference though, seeing as we got down there only to find it had been cancelled!

[More:]

I'm trying hard not to be annoyed, particularly seeing as I had two friends travel over for it. There wasn't even an explanation and it was advertised in Friday's paper as being on. I don't see how it can be the state of the ground or the weather (there's no flooding there) as a similar event took place in the actual rain during the town's music festival. And today was not only dry but sunny. I suppose the council staff may have been busy clearing up after the floods (in which case I know I shouldn't moan!) but loads of people turned up for it, only to be disappointed.

What makes it worse, in my eyes, is that the park's free water play area for the children is also out of action and has been for over a week from what I've heard from other people (so the council can't blame that on the flooding!) So the first fine day for weeks and the kids couldn't do even half the things the council is supposed to have to keep them entertained. (Part of the playground is also fenced off. I mean it's not like it's the summer holidays and there are loads of children wanting to be outside playing or anything!)

Anyway, I shall turn my whining voice off now, as I had a letter back from Orbis editor Carole Baldock today to say she wants to hold onto one of my poems for consideration for the magazine in the autumn. I think this good news - but I'm trying not to get to excited, as I realise being considered is not the same as definitely being published!

Keep everything crossed everybody!

Everything's duly crossed, Sarah!

What a shame about the party in the park being cancelled, as well as everything else there being to pot! The children must have been so disappointed - and with so few sunny days this summer, it's a real shame! I hope you managed to make your own fun with your boys and that today was less stressful than yesterday, despite the setback.

Yes, thank you, Marit, I'm just being a grump! The boys were just pleased to run around outside with their friends. There were also some very deep puddles in the far end of the park. They came home very muddy and therefore very happy!
