Flooded!

It's been a wet day in Worcestershire, so wet that my parents-in-laws' house is now one foot under water and their lane flooded to about five foot high!

[More:]

Fortunately, they're safe and have managed to find shelter at their next-door neighbour's house, which is currently (touch wood) unflooded. I can't even begin to think how much work they will have to clear up though.:(

The irony of it is they probably would have been alright if their power hadn't gone, as they have some sort of pump to keep water away from the house. The double irony is that they only bought the house as a project to do up and sell. They've had lots of work done and had just replastered and had new carpets in downstairs. I've had a sick feeling for them ever since we found out. At least they're insured, but my father-in-law's new laptop is ruined too.:>

I almost feel guilty because we have been so untouched where we are just a few miles away(though our main computer has stopped working today, perhaps in sympathy with their laptop!) Still, if they can get out of their lane tomorrow, at least we can offer them warm beds and food. Let's hope the forecasters are right about the rain stopping tonight though!

Two months worth of rain in half a day this time around. No wonder people are helpless against the rising waters. I do hope that the damage at your parents-in-laws' house is not as bad as feared, and that the Insurance Company is helpful. Thank goodness for good neighbours, friends and family at times like these!

All this rain is making me worry that I've moved into a ground floor flat; so far, all is well; sorry about your poor family, Sarah; all I have to worry about is soggy cardboard and some old 'treasures stored in a leaky, uninsured shed outside.
We'll need weeks of sun to dry al this up; my grandson is being baptised on 29th - maybe it'll clear up for him.

It is an unbelieveable nightmare here at the moment. If we're still unflooded ourselves I'll upload some pix later. Our high street is flooded, roads blocked, cars floating and cheshire fire brigade are down here with boats. We have a canal and river at the back of us. The canal overflow into the river (which has burst its bank) looks like it's at its limit. If it goes...
The water's all gone at my in-laws but they're now trying to clear up. I think it will take some time!
