Chocolate

Author: mater (add to friends)

My husband was given a large box of the finest Irish chocolate today, as a thank you for laying some turf, free of charge, for a neighbour.

[More:]

Always one to share his goodies, he kindly offered me first choice - and second. Me, a choco-holic (who shouldn't eat chocolate, because it's bad for arthritis )dived in. Boy, did I suffer. Racing, irregular heartbeat, thumping headache and tight chest (to mention but a few symptoms). I then read the list of ingredients. Aha, wheat starch! What's that doing in chocolate? I can't eat anything with wheat in - and they dare put it into chocolate? What are they trying to do? Wean me off involuntarily? Oh well, he gets to eat the lot by himself - while I dribble helplessly in the corner, mouth watering at the thought of what I can't have. :))

Oh I know the feeling, I too have to try and avoid certain foods but it is really really hard sometimes. I think wheat is one and I know potatoes are the other (so I think starch has something to do with it) and yes it is amazing what they put into chocolate. Sometimes I say 'to heck with it' and indulge anyway - usually on a Friday evening when I can lounge around as much as I want the day after. I hope the side effects of your indulgence are short lived.

That's a shame, poor you. A woman who can't have chocolate, it must be tortuous to watch him eating them.
I have type 2 diabetes, and y daughter once bought be some Thornton's diabetic chocs for Christmas. I don't do chocolate much, but when I do, I pig it.
I dived into those like they were the last chocolates o earth.
About an hour later, I was walking round Asda doubled up with the most painful and lengthy attack of wind i've ever had. I darent let it out, it was packed in there.
I did manage to let some of it out walking to the car, which was a relief,
I think I passed wind for about a day and a half in all. Lucky me I was off work, unlucky wife, she was off work too.
I read the the ingredients list from the side of the box when I got back, The advice, (in bold letters) told me to take it easy with the contents and only have one or two at a time, as they contained a sweetener which could cause some people to suffer from an upset stomach. REALLY!

Hope you're feeling better now, Marit. If it's any consolation, I'm drooling too!

Me too Marit! I have to hide my chocolate in the car to stop myself from pigging it! Now where did I put those keys ...
