A letter.

Author: mater (add to friends)

I popped in to read some of your blogs and leave some comments this evening - not to write a post.

[More:]

I have been busy tonight - and this morning, too, for that matter - keeping up with the contributions to The Challenge. I have one more to post up tonight, after completing my part of the 'deal'. So that was my plan.

Then Ed said: 'I had a letter today.'

You may remember the threat of redundancy with three of the newer members of the workforce being given their notice some weeks ago - and a possible three day week for the rest. The three day week didn't happen. I asked only yesterday if things were going okay. Now this.

'What letter?'

'Read it.'

I read, through a bit of a mist, I must admit. The current economic situation is affecting my ability to stretch the housekeeping as it is - and I have tentatively asked for more, while keeping down the bills that I pay.

It wasn't a redundancy letter, but close. I was the kind you get just before they pull the rug from beneath your feet. Not that Ed would mind. He's been with them for twenty years plus and worked solidly for 43 years. He could do with a break.

The firm is in financial difficulties, as a knock-on effect from other firms facing difficulties as a knock-on effect from the housing situation, as a knock-on effect... etc. I feel so sorry for them. They have worked hard to build this gardening firm up, father and two sons - but I can't see them being able to pull the firm back from the brink the way it's going. Unless a miracle happens.

What if he's made redundant while the kids are on holiday? 'Me and them' will have to camp down the playground! :))

My sympathies, Marit.

I've been through this process a time or two and it's worrying.

I hope everything turns out fine.

Oh, Marit, how awful for you both. We faced a similar situation at the end of last year.

Fingers crossed for you.

I'm thinking of you too, Marit. I'm sure whatever happens your indomitable spirit will triumph, but I'll have my fingers crossed that it doesn't have to be put to the test. You deserve the best.

Thinking of you. I have been through this experience but I am a great believer that as one door closes another opens, although at the time you don't think so. I hope everything works out for you and Ed and that the difficult period will be short lived.
