Procrastination on Auto-Pilot?

Author: mater (add to friends)

When I woke up this morning - to a beautiful summer’s day and the prospect of almost a whole day to myself - procrastination was the furthest thing from my mind.

[More:]

I had plans - and the day was all mine! As a bonus today brought me some respite from the pain and immobility that RA has wrought on me lately. Perhaps the warmer weather helps?
I’d have jumped and kicked my heels together if I’d been able to (now that would have been a sight!) - out of sheer joy.

So what did I do with my day? Hm, let me see. For a start I think procrastination has acquired auto-pilot. I meant to write, but something made me wash the dishes instead (it’s not every day that I’m able to), then do the washing, the tidying, burning rubbish and scraps of wood in the Rayburn to heat the water up (saving on the electric), some cleaning and surfing the net (I mean researching, of course). Oh, and then I thought it would be a good idea to prepare the potatoes and vegetables for tea/supper - and do the shopping online as I still can’t manage the shops. That left me half an hour before my grandsons returned from school - to write this little bit. I enjoyed that half an hour out in the sun, scribbling this in my notebook and enjoying a cup of coffee.

So much for good intentions. I meant to do some editing. I only have a couple of chapters of my novel to rewrite and it’s getting a bit late now. But there again, most of it has been written during the late - or even early - hours, so I might still get to it.
I thought I might enter it for the Daily Mail First Novel Competition (closing date 2nd July). Anyone else having a go?

Happens to us all, Marit. At least you're up to date with everything so those things won't distract you tomorrow (I hope).

I wrote a piece about 15 great ways to procrastinate. I'm a master at it!
I'm also trying to finish my novel and lately keep getting sidetracked. It'll eventually be done but it's taking me almost literally forever!

I had a look at your blog, Wynn (Ruth?) and I'm impressed, but I couldn't find the one about procrastination (you've got a lot on there!). Perhaps you could point me to the right one?
I have a Would-Be-Protagonist (on this blog) who bemoans his mistress's procrastination on his behalf.
I'd like to meet a writer who never procrastinates - if one exists!

Glad I'm not the only one that procrastinates like that. Good luck for the competition, Marit. :-)
