How attractive is your page?

Blogs can typically accommodate not only text but images too, and if you have any relevant photographs, use them.

[More:]

Images must be uploaded as files. Go to backoffice (admin) and click “files”. At the bottom of the screen you will find options to “browse” and “quick upload”. Click browse and you will be taken to your hard drive files. Find the image you want, and open it. Then click “quick upload” and the image will be uploaded to your files directory.

It’s worth noting here that the maximum file size is 100kb. The system does not tell you this until you try to upload something larger. If your file is too large, it will be rejected. Reducing the actual image size usually reduces the file size too, so if your picture is 640x480 pixels, try reducing it by half by half to 332x240. That should cure the problem.

For some reason, this software does not like filenames longer than one word. I tried uploading "sea view" and it returned an error, "filename not valid." I changed it to "seaview" and it uploaded. SO if your image title is more than one word, alter it on your hard drive before trying to upload.

With the file uploaded, you need to insert it in your page. Whether you elect to use the “img” option, situated close to the “!M” tab on the write screen, or write the html code yourself, you will need to know the URL of the photograph. The simplest way to establish this is go to the files menu, double click the image to open it in a separate window, then right click in the new window and click “properties”. This will give you the URL. Make a note of it, then go back to your write screen and click “img”.

A small box will open. Type in your picture’s URL, then click OK. Another box will open giving you the option to add text and titles to the picture. When you click “OK” for the last time, your picture will be inserted into the text.

Examples of pictures inserted into text can be found here (you will need to scroll down the page)and here

Magazine editors like articles with images, and surfers are no different. Put an image in to augment the text and you enhance the reader’s experience, making it more likely that he will come back.
