The Saltburn-by-the-Sea funicular image: http://tiny.cc/ROoXS which I uploaded on my blog, on the 1st May 09, was featured in: The Observer on Sunday, 7 June 2009.

Actually, it wasn’t as good as mine, but it was very similar. It was featured in: The Guardian ESCAPE supplement on page 6. A full half page with the titles of:

QUICK TRIPS: YORKSHIRE.
GREAT BRITISH ESCAPES…
SALTBURN-BY-THE-SEA

The article also covered:

Why Go Now?
Where to stay
Don’t Miss
Where to Eat
The Perfect Pub
Retail Therapy
Take a Hike
Take the Family.

Oh, and for those who were admiring my picture – Saltburn Pier received its Pier of the Year Award. http://tiny.cc/Scwrc

My grandson loves trains and last week we boarded the train in Redcar, bought a return ticket and chuffed our way to Saltburn. Once there we head straight for the miniature railway. Here he is in the first picture, getting ready to be transferred from buggy to train.

Here he is a little older – but still obsessed. Guess what he wants to be when he grows up? Oh yes, and he loves the funicular, too, as well as the telescope looking out to sea.

One for the road.

Thank you, Betty. I have lots of pictures with my grandson on trains. Must post them up some time and tell of their whereabouts, together with their historical and significant past.

Bring back trains I say - less traffic on the road, cleaner air - especially with the more modern ones.
