Magnificent weather in North Yorkshire.

What magnificent weather we are having, here in North Yorkshire. Instead of writing, I’ve been taking photographs and gardening - and thinking about writing.

[More:]

The first photograph is of my grandson bouncing on a trampoline in his front garden. It was taken on Bank Holiday Monday – the weather was fabulous and we dared to have a barbecue.

The second image is of Roseberry Topping – taken today from Pinchinthorpe – just a bike ride away from my home.

The third photograph is of the Victorian funicular at Saltburn-by-the-sea. This beach is about 7 mile away from where I live and is a beautiful stretch of beach.

The pond-dipping images were taken today at the Guisborough Forest & Walkway Centre at Pinchinthorpe. One of these images is going to be on the front page of our community magazine (summer issue), but I need your help in deciding which one to choose.

Incidentally, I did ask the lady if it was okay to photograph her and the children. She was really very nice and said, she didn't mind at all. I also explained that no-one would be able to identify the children and would it be okay if they appeared on the front cover of our magazine. She said it was okay. Whenever I'm taking pictures I always explain, especailly if the camera is directed towards people, what I'm doing and why.

Yes, I too had a bounce.

I'll vouch for the glorious weather. If you intend to use the pond dipping photos I would pick the middle one.

Roseberry Topping and Saltburn are well known to me and my family.

Great pics/

I didn't know you had the funicular railway at Saltburn, Marilyn. They're a godsend when I go to Scarborough.

I like the cliff railway at Saltburn. The composition is good with the pier pointing away to the horizon. And, portrait format will presumably fit the cover, too. Is the funicular water-powered? In my hometown of Hastings the East Hill Lift is similar and was originally operated by weight of water being pumped from the lower car into the higher car. When the higher car was heavier it descended and pulled the lighter lower car up. That reminds me of the record by Gerard Hoffnung. It's an age thing! David M.

Gorgeous pics, Marilyn. For a community magazine, I'd go with pond dipping, I think. And David M - I thought I was the only one who remembered Hoffnung's buckets!

Pond dipping number 2 for me as well, I think although the Saltburn funicular railway is a good alternative. I,too, have happy memories of such railways - and I still enjoy them too, given the opportunity!
