Simon Whaley’s excellent book, Running a Writers’ Circle, takes the stress out of setting up and running a writers’ group. Using his considerable experience as chairman of a writers’ circle, Simon has set out everything a prospective group needs to consider.
Running a Writers' Circle by Simon Whaley, paperback, 164 pp, Ignotus Press, £11.99
The contents list alone creates confidence in the reader as Simon takes us from scratch through administration, chairing meetings, good structure of meetings, setting up and running a competition, creating a group website and arranging writers’ retreats.
To finish off he provides useful sections on literary festivals, gives some insider tips (such as where to find speakers and workshop facilitators) and finishes with a great reference section.
This is a book no writers’ circle committee (whether already formed or yet to come into being) can afford to be without.
