My children's novel Vlad the Inhaler finished in the number one spot over on the Arts Council site YouWriteOn.com.
From this month Random House will be looking at the top finishers, so in addition to the professional critique, my book's opening chapters will be by-passing the slush pile. I know it doesn't mean a deal, or even being close to one, but it's an opening and I'm hugely excited.
I've been working on this book for years, but I finally feel that I'm almost there with it now. It's been a long slog, but I'm hoping it will turn out to be worthwhile.

Mo, you really have known Vlad forever. You were my first reader and got the chapters hot from my brain - typos, plot glitches and all the other problems, too. Vlad says thanks for hanging in there.
Marc, Vlad is a vegetarian, asthmatic, half-human vampire with a few other problems, like not being able to turn into a bat. :)
