AN ISLAND WEEKEND

:D

I'm back from Vancouver Island after a lovely weekend with my cousins. I have three cousins living on the Island and we had a reunion picnic at a Provincial Park on Saturday with all the families, about 30 in total including the little kids. There was a long stretch of sandy beach strewn with clam shells and tiny crabs scuttling about, a very good beach for children as the water is shallow for quite a long way out. And we had picnic tables on the grass under the trees so it was most pleasant. Lots of good food: potato salad, hot dogs, watermelon -- the usual picnic fare. It was good to see everyone as I usually only see the cousins who live in Victora (the others are from up-island) and I don't often see their families.

I came back on the ferry this afternoon after such a relaxing, fun time. It was god to clear my head. I got everything into perspective -- especially about the stupid g. ad problem (which I am still in the dark over). Decided to just leave it be for now and see if they deign to reply to my appeal. If not, I will work on Plan B. Meanwhile I get so many great accolades about the site and I notice I'm up on the top of the list when I googled it tonight. Good sign. So why let that ad fiasco spoil things for me??

Meanwhile, I also got notifified about a published story (for pay!) on line. You can see it at www.intheknowtraveler.com/2704 It's a story about Monamvassia, an interesting medieval site in the Pelonponnese. I'm supposed to get a couple more stories published on another site this summer too. (for pay) so things are looking up in that respect.

Now it's time to settle down and return to work on my novel. I'm almost caught up on the travel stuff so I should be able to focus more time on Alexander's world now.

I wonder how I put up photos on this site? If I can figure it out I may post a couple of my Island weekend.

MIFFED

:'(

I'm a little bit miffed this morning. Well, a LOT miffed! Last night I got a message from the Great God of the Web "Google" telling me my ads have been removed from my blogs and travel site because of 'suspicious' activity. Does this make me a criminal? I have appealed but no reply. I believe it's because some very well-meaning friends of mine have been conscientiously clicking the ads in order to help me generate some funding for my site. I guess that sort of thing is against the web laws! Anyway now I am trying to figure out Plan B. Don't exactly know what to do about it or where I can find alternative ads for my site. But I won't despair yet. If anything it may mean that I have to cut back on publications or cut the fees offered for the contributors. Up to now, aside from a couple cheque I got from G. it's all out of my own pocket and I'm not very well off at the moment and desperately trying to save money for Chile (without much success. I had the plane fare and ended up spending it on medical expenses to attend to a pinched nerve in my foot and other problems).

If anybody out there has any brilliant suggestions, please let me know.
This is all very frustrating, as the Travel Thru History site has been gaining popularity and getting great reviews and I certainly don't feel like dropping it
when things were seemingly going so well.

Short stories and nice paintings

The Ballista section here is searching for short stories with a supernatural twist, and there's a nice gallery of paintings of henges and other pagan sites.

Family Home Saved by Rogue Pigs

I read recently in one of my local free papers an article taken from the vaults of time around 1908 in Chadderton near Oldahm. I will not recount the whole story suffice to say a sleeping family were saved from death as their house burnt.
Their saviors?
A small group of pigs who had escaped from a smll holding raised the alarm.

what a great story line and great opportunity for headline writers as well.

Any takers on the Headline?

What about a short story competition?
