The person who sent you the trojan almost certainly wouldn't have known that he/she (because with these things sex is no indicator) had sent it to you Jak. Torjans tend to be robot programs that trawl the internet looking for pc's to infect.
I wouldn't be too confident in avg either, Jak, as some trojans have the ability to bypass any anti virus program and even turn them off from the inside.
Download and install a free program called 'malwarebytes' do a google search for it, or go directly to www.malwarebytes.org and download the free version.
Before scanning always update the definitions. It will find and remove just about every trojan out there (although some still need 'safe mode' scans to fully remove) AVG whist good against normally virus's and good against the older trojans, isn't up to it, on it's own against the new varieties. Believe me, I do this for a living and I see this sort of thing all the time.

Thanks Trevor. I did actually write that with a pinch of salt. But someone has to set the robots off in the first place.
Fortunately I do already have Malwarebyte which was placed here by my little man. And I had it before, on your recommendation, together with my Kaspersky, but the damage was so great, I couldn't run it, or anything else, as the mouse and the keyboard wouldn't work. It was Kaspersky that told me I had a Trojan that would not be removed or quarantined.

Pleased you got it sorted, Jean. I still run AVG, but I also tagged on malwarebytes and ad-aware, although the latter is a bit of a pain in the backside because it ahcks out even "safe" cookies.
Between the three I've manged to steer clear of all Trojans and viruses (touch wood) but I remain suspicious of emails, even those from close friends and associates, especially when they're carrying attachments.

Sorry to hear about the Trojan Jak, and pleased to hear it's sorted now.
