One Day in my Retirement
Author: jak (add to friends)I’ve had a funny old day. It started with a lengthy to do list that I ended up prioritising, so no writing at all got done before this moment. What wasn’t on the list was setting up the new printer that was delivered this morning.
I’d ended up buying an ex-display Epson DX6050 that I was fortunate enough to win in an ebay auction at a pretty good price. In the end, what with installing all the software that came with it and working out how to do everything, it took up pretty well all of the morning.
Since I had been waiting in for this delivery for several days, the cupboards were pretty bare. So after lunch it was off to Tescos at Shaftesbury, where I could get everything quickly in one fell swoop. I parked the car and remembered that I needed some make up I could get in Boots in the High Street. (Our really local shop that used to stock it has now closed down). Better get that first, I thought, so headed away for the trek through town.
On the way back, I saw the final knock-down price sale at the Edinburgh Woollen Mill. I’ll be needing some new tops for our holiday next month, so I just popped in to check that out, coming out with a couple of bargains and only £12 lighter. Next stop the card shop for my daughter’s birthday card which had to be sent today. (That was on the list.).
By the time I was at home and had found homes for all the shopping, it was after four o’clock. I had to catch the post, which goes soon after five, and I had to write a promised letter to my son as well, and find all the things I’d promised to send him. At 4.30 I turned on the oven to heat it up ready for the frozen steak pie I’d just bought for supper, before rushing out of the door to walk to the post office.
Phew – 2 things to cross off the list. The pie was in the oven and I could have ten minutes to do some Helium rating. This is imperative so that I won’t lose my stars over there and will still be credited my dues at the end of the month. One more thing to cross off, and back downstairs to cook and then eat and clear up.
This post is the fourth thing on my list. After I’ve got all this off my chest, I’ll do my entrecard dropping for about an hour. And I might just manage to think up a haiku. My next CC article and everything else will have to wait till tomorrow as I’m bushed.
Where does all the time go? And how did I ever manage to go out to work?
