I’m very tired tonight. There is a bit of tension in our house. Hubby and I have had an altercation. Of course I can only tell you my side of it.

It was our turn to have the neighbours in for a jolly. We’d been putting it off because we’d hoped to move and they would all be coming to our house warming at the next place. But of course that hasn’t happened. So thought I’d better do something about it and invited them for this Saturday. Last time I had done steak, salads and jacket potatoes etc and put it all out for them to help themselves. George suggested I do a curry evening this time – he loves curry (as well as steak).

The trouble with curry is that not everyone likes it, one such being Graham who lives alone next door. Also not everyone likes it hot, as does George. I don’t make many curries from scratch; it’s much quicker with a bottled sauce. So last night George came in with some chicken and sauces he’s picked up from Waitrose on the way home from the pub. One sauce was a Madras and one a Vindaloo. For the two of us I often buy a Jalfrezi and have some in the cupboard.

I just happened to mention that these two might be a bit hot for our guests. Then I told him I‘d invited another friend to make us an even number. Unfortunately, she may have a visitor that night so I told her that person would be welcome too. Well, you would, wouldn’t you?

You’d have thought I’d committed a murderous crime, the way he went on about inviting the whole neighbourhood. (It’s actually because he knows my friend doesn’t like his smoking habit). And why does he ever bother doing any shopping because it’s always wrong.

I went out with my shopping list today, spent about an hour in Waitrose and bankrupted myself (after I had wrapped, parcelled and posted the presents for HIS two daughters and their families, all of which I had been out to buy in recent weeks). My cooking plan is now for a beef casserole with no spices; a lamb Madras (praying it’ll suit someone other than George); a chicken Dopiaza; and my own veggie curry. We’ll have various starters and naan bread and rice with the mains. As it’s so close to Xmas, mince pies and cream will follow, then my cheese board with crackers and grapes. There should be something to suit everyone. Leftovers will go into the freezer. With luck I won’t have to cook again for a few days.

But George is sulking. He says he’s not coming to MY party. Well, it would be his loss. But we’ll see.
