Lenny's Hotels

Author: jak (add to friends)

Have you seen that TV ad where Lenny Henry stays in a Premier Inn? Well, it's all true. Except the last bit.

[More:]

For me the bill WAS big. £120 for two nights B&B for one person is more than I usually want to pay. But I was travelling with sis and bro-in-law so I could hardly stay somewhere different, even though my room for me cost the same as their room for the two of them. The only difference was that my continental breakfast add-on was only charged once.

I couldn't fault the room, large and perfectly temperature controlled with a great big bed all to myself. As much tea and coffee as I wanted to make, a TV that worked and a pristine en-suite with a great shower. Adjoining the accommodation: a Brewers Fayre pub with a sound proofed children's play area, an excellent meal with roast lamb that melted in the mouth and a bottle of rosé for £10.49.

I'd never noticed this hotel chain before, but as we drove around after booking in, we kept seeing them everywhere, even on the way home this morning. I predict they'll keep on multiplying, and I recommend them, as long as you have someone to share your room with.

On my way to Cornwall last year, Jean, I stayed at their main opposition, Travel Lodge, and it was £20 cheaper than Premier. They're locked in battle, so you should always looked for the cheap deal from one or the other.

The chain used ti be the Travel Inn - I used them all over the country in the days when the rooms were £40. The ones with Beefeaters attached were always the best. There were too many kids at the Brewers Fayres and the food wasn't as good.
I remember complaining when the room rate reached £40. When the chain changed to Premier Inns the prices have risen steadily until they are are pricing themselves out of a business market. [Premier League football springs to mind]
