Techie Help, Please

Author: jak (add to friends)

I’m really stuck. I can’t install SystemSuite 8 – a programme upgrade that I’ve just downloaded from Avanquest.

[More:]

I only bought the wretched thing because they emailed to say that the previous version will not be supported with upgrades after April 1st and I could have it at half price. And I was furious about that because, just a week ago, I renewed the annual upgrades for SystemSuite 7 for £8.94, at their invitation.

When I click on its install icon, my system tells me to go to Control Panel to install and configure components. When I do this and go to Add New Programs, I only get two options: install from a CD or floppy (then it tells me to load the disks); add new Windows features etc over the internet (these are just Windows updates). If I go to Change or Remove Programs, I can only modify or remove SystemSuite 7.

Going to my system help is useless and will only tell me how to install new hardware devices. Went to the Avanquest support page, lodged a support ticket, and got two replies saying they will contact me in about 3 days.

At least this saves me having to think up what to write in my blog today, but I’ve just lost half a day. Can anyone help me here, please?

And now I have accidentally deleted a whole folder of emails entitled Admin, so pray I don’t need to refer to anything that was in there. Right now I’m tearing my hair out, figuratively speaking.

Jean I just checked their site. did you donwload the upgrade or the full version? If you donwloaded the full version rather than the upgrade, it may be causing a conflict. If you donwloaded the upgrade, you're snookered until they get in touch.

I can recommend AVG as free security software in the meantime. Any google search will find them. I've run it for 4 years now and never a minute's trouble

Jean I've never heard of this programme. You should check to see if they have a forum as you can sometimes get help there.

I also use AVG it's a great programme and keeps me protected even though I get dozens of emails every day and have to visit some pretty dodgy websites as well!

Thanks folks. They did in fact pull their finger out for me after I posted here. Although the problem's not yet solved, some emails have been flying back and forth.
