Apology - More Embarrassment

Author: jak (add to friends)

I had to edit my post about Hatshepsut when I found out that she was not followed by Tutankamon but by her stepson and half brother, Thutmose III. Hatshepsut took power in a round 1500 BC. The famous Tutankamon lived around 200 years later. It was my memory that was at fault, and I should checked it before posting instead of after. Sorry about that.

Embarrassment on the Web

Author: jak (add to friends)

Yesterday, I found two more pieces of mine up on the web that were purchased at Constant Content. The first, published here, was written specifically in response to a request.

A Royal Stepmother

Author: jak (add to friends)

Hatshepsut (pronounced a bit like Hat-cheap-suit) was a female who took on the role of Pharaoh after her husband died and her stepson, Thutmose III, was too young to rule. It was important to look the part, so she wore a false beard and flattened her breasts as much as possible.

Does the Patient Know Best?

Author: jak (add to friends)

At the moment my hubby has a fracture in his hand just above the wrist. He did it in the garden while not looking where he put his feet, and managing to trip UP the steps. (There are just two miniature steps in our garden.) Of course his hand went down in an attempt to save himself and the wrist bent backwards.

A Great Way to Get a Novel Published

Author: jak (add to friends)

Because I am thinking of writing a review of Susan Breen’s novel, The Fiction Class, I thought I’d better look her up.

I discovered that she’s had loads of short stories published but The Fiction Class was her first novel. What I think is really fascinating to relate is how this novel got published.

Those Folding Mirror Poems

Author: jak (add to friends)

Have you checked out Greenygrey's Folding Mirror Poetry recently? If not you might have missed me over there on Wednesday and Thursday last week. Aside from my contributions, though, there's some fascinating material from Marc himself and from our own Sarah James as well. So it's well worth a visit.

Back in the Fold

Author: jak (add to friends)

You may or may not have noticed my absence. It was caused not by a holiday this time, but by some nasty person who sent me a particularly virulent Trojan.

Haiku Diary - April 09

Author: jak (add to friends)

If you struggle through to the end of this one, you'll get to the cliffhanger. Will I make you wait till the end of May to find out what happens and if I go for one? You'll just have to wait and see.

Time to Stop the Dreaming

Author: jak (add to friends)

First I must apologise for not finding time to comment and otherwise participate here.

But second, we need to break out the champagne. It looks like I've sold my house. You probably know long I've been dreaming about this - it'll be two years in July that I first put it on the market.

It happened yesterday, and today hubby and I have been house hunting for ourselves. Out of a starting line up of eight, which changed with each estate agent, we are down to a short list of two, either of which would leave us pretty well penniless, but what the heck. You can't take it with you.

Now I've arranged for my daughter to come down from London on Friday to help me make the final decision before I make any offers. Wish me luck.

Signing off tired but happy.

Another Three-Day Week

Author: jak (add to friends)

It’s all go at the moment. I’ve completed my three articles for CC this week. I submitted the first one, on the Chinese cheongsam, on Monday for a public request. That one was reviewed and accepted within an hour and a half. The editor always gives priority to requested material. I mentioned in my last post that it was snapped up straight away. On Tuesday I wrote about composition in photography, and yesterday produced my first full length article about Egypt.
