trackback

I think at last I am getting the hang of many of the technical bits here that eluded me.
However I'm still not sure about trackbacks and pingbacks. I assume as there are two words they are different things. Probably not important but I am curious as to why when I post, it says 'no pingbacks to be sent'. In my profile there is a box to tick to allow trackbacks but when i tick it and save, it stays there empty.
Anybody know why?

We don't advise anyone to tick track backs as you usually end up getting hit with a lot of spam links to very questionable sites!

Pinging is just a service that lets blog collectors know that you have updated your blog. It supposedly drives traffic to your site, but I haven't noticed much difference!

Thanks. In that case i shall continue to ignore it. There is enough spam in the real world without having it here too. Wonder why the option is there though.

Theoretically, a trackback allows you to know who has linked to your blog. Until the spammers jumped on the bandwagon.
