It's been a while . . .

Author: gillyflower (add to friends)

. . . since I've had time to write anything in this blog that I began with with such enthusiasm, fully intending to keep up regular posts, and record the mill saga, as well as some of life's daily trivia. But life got in the way, as life so often does, and the intro to my last piece is as relevant today as it was back in March. I'm having trouble keeping up with it.

[More:]

The mill continues to dominate. Neither it, nor Gunns have gone away or given up, but the stakes rose again as we neared the end of the financial year (which is 30th June in Oz), and another Gunns' deadline. The end of June was supposed to herald their success in securing the necessary funding, or a joint venture partner, but the date came and went without confirmation of either. Just some ill-advised support from our federal Minister for Forestry, Fisheries and Agriculture when he spouted factually incorrect information, lifted verbatim from Gunns' IIS, to spruik the jobs, jobs, jobs, mantra.

Now Tony Burke (very apt name under the circumstances) is the chap I had a one-on-one with at the Community Cabinet last November. A fellow I did actually hold out some confidence in. Briefly. Given I'm still waiting for his replies to letters, emails, and the response to questions posed at said CC, (which were supposed to be received within six weeks), this misplaced faith evaporated some time ago.

However Burke dropped himself right in it spouting dodgy, plagiarised information - in parliament - to justify to his colleagues in the House the 'need' for this mill. The lawyers are onto it. So are Media Watch, (at least we hope they are).

In fact there are lots of things going on re fighting this mill, and I'm involved in more than one of them.
