Moving Moments

Packers are happy people. I admire them. They are organised, tidy, and unwavering. They arrive at nine, pack till eleven, have a break, pack till one, have a break, pack till three, have a break, then pack till five.

[More:]

They label computer flexes, pack curtain hooks in little boxes and place them right beside the relevant curtains. If a paperclip is found at the bottom of a junk mug in my kitchen, it will arrive at my destination marked 'paper clip: kitchen'. The only mess in my house at the moment is the mess I have created, in my efforts to 'sort'. This is what I sorted yesterday for them to pack today.

This is how they packed yesterday:

And when, bleary-eyed, my autopilot took me to the exercise bike this morning, this is what I found.

But I rather like the minimalist look they leave behind them:

And we are finding innovative ways to make the house still look - and feel - like a lived-in home.

This is truly wonderful! Full marks for being able to take such an upbeat attitude at this stage. Is it the shiatsu - or are you in fact lying in your teeth, and really you're a soggy mess in the middle of the largest box? Whatever - all the very best for you last few days in Uruguay.

Wow! I could do with your packers to clean up the usual mess my house seems to exist in and I'm not going anywhere!

Wow ! Could you send those packers to my house ? I've been at it - packing I mean - since Christmas. Your so much more organised than I am.

I bet you're glad you haven't got to do it all yourself! I can only remember having professional packers and movers (well, my parents did), when we moved from Northern Norway down to the south - and I was bewildered by all the boxes. My mother took all in her stride though. Much like you, by the sound of it! Yoga Nidra helping then?
I hope you weren't going to have a go on your exercise bike!

Such clever use of words and photos too... A great beginning, middle and ending to this little bite of news. Good luck with the rest of your move, Paola.

Hope all is going well, Paola.
Your packers do sound very good.
Last time we moved, the removal firm's quote was based on a day for packing and a day for moving. Bit the day before they rang to say they'd do it all on the one day. You can probably imagine how it turned out if I tell you they thought it was sensible/best to pack plates flat rather than upright!

Sounds like the packers were extremely well organised. You've been quite busy over the last month, I'm amazed you find time to write still. Anyway, I wish you all the best with your move. No doubt you will make many more new friends.
