Uruguay
I thought you may enjoy these few lines by our poet friend Jonathan Lamb. Do check out his site at www.jclamb.com.
Jonathan is also seeking sponsors for a project to bring British theatre to Uruguay ( http://www.actorstouruguay.com ) for a 70th anniversary play about the Battle of the River Plate, which he has written. On this site you can hear an ex-President of Uruguay reading Jonathan's poem.
Uruguay
Grant me Lord that when I die,
Heaven will be like Uruguay;
Sunshine, lemons, pears and peaches,
Miles and miles and miles of beaches;
Laughing chicas in bikinis,
Luscious creamcakes called massinis
Steak-smoke heavy in the street,
Such meat, such meat;
Parrots gliding on the breeze,
The scent of eucalyptus trees;
Sunsets on a silver sea,
Turning pink and gold for me;
But best of all, o utter joy,
Several girls to every boy
Grant me Lord that when I die,
Heaven will be like Uruguay.
