SPAM BOTS ZAPPED!

Fingers crossed we've zapped the spam bots! The leak appeared to be through the comments forms so our programmer has made a few behind the scenes changes and also installed some capture software.

[More:]

What this means is, when you make a comment, you will need to fill in a box with some letters that appear below the comment box.

This can only be done by a human being which means if a spam bot tries to comment on a post it will be denied access.

The only problem I have found so far is that you can't comment in your back office as no box appears.

I'll let Rob know about this and see if it can be implemented.

Unfortunately if you are still receiving spam it is because the bots have managed to capture your email address.

Either change your email or do as I have done, create some message rules in Outlook or your web accounts so that they are deleted as soon as they arrive.

I have one rule for all the common spam words and it has killed off 95% of spam emails.

If you have turned off notifications you should be fine now to turn them back on. :)

Hi Sue

I never received any spam via commenting. I received it when the email form was activated.

Right now, I still can't get into my profile to make any adjustments because the system tells me I'm inputting either an incorrect username or password when both are correct.

I'll use Trevor's shortcut, alter my settings and see if we keep the spam at bay.

Sorry Sue, but I rest my profile to allow emails through a message form, which for me is where the problem came from. I had the first spam, from the porn sites within ten minutes.

I've disabled it again.
