In theory you should only need to clear your COOKIES, but I found I needed to clear CACHE as well and if this still doesn't do the trick, try also clearing TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES and HISTORY. There seems to be a bit of variation between machines.

Hi Sue,
I was able to upload a new post this morning using IE, but each time I try to go into my back office to fix a text error my computer freezes.
I still cannot log in using Firefox and I have cleared everything on there several times.
Help!

Okay. I'm in through Firefox, but this is weird, Sue. I requested my password through the email system and the password that was sent wasn't mine, but a whole load of letters and digits. I copied and pasted and here I am!
So, now my question is - what is my password, my own one, or this new and strange one?

Glad you've got in Lorraine. The site will be a bit wobbly for the next few days as an awful lot is going on behind the scenes at the moment. Unfortunately we've had to bite the bullet and do it on the live site as it is the only way of pinpointing errors!
RE password. This is fine and proves things are working as they should. The site doesn't actually store passwords. What it does is send you a randomly generated one.
You can stick with this if you wish, but it is much better to change it to one you can easily remember.
To do this go to the My Writing Desk button and select Profile. You will be linked to the new Profile system which now works!
Select the edit password link and change it to something you prefer.

Sorry about the login/logout problems. Our programmer is working on it! Clearing Cookies will solve the problem, the main issue seems to be at the moment that it only works for one day! In my case I have to clear Cookies each morning.
To avoid frustration until the site stabalises, I suggest you don't logout once logged in.
Mater, the reason you can't access your back office is because you are not logged in as your comment is appearing as a Visitor posting.
NB I'm finding IE very slow to load at the moment. We will be looking at this shortly, but if you are having a similar problems use Firefox, it is a much safer browser anyway.

Gosh! I didn't realise there was a site problem, I haven't been able to log in for months and I thought it was something I was doing wrong, having requested umpteen new passwords and still not getting in I gave up in the end, I'm so glad that it's a technical thing and not me after all, thought I was going mad, mind you, I'm quite scatty anyway as a rule!
Here's hoping that I can post this note up having cleared my cookies and files.

Most of the login problems are caused by not clearing Cookies. You won't have to keep doing it, it is just while the site assimilates then new subs software.
The other main reason why some members have trouble logging in is because they include spaces either before or after their passwords. The site recognises these as characters so of course will refuse admittance!
If you have to request a new password you will receive a long string of letters and numbers. Be very careful how you input these!
Change it to something more meaningful by going to My Writing Desk/Profile.

Hi Sue, I don't seem to be able to log into my blog. I don't have a write option on my writing desk, and when I click on edit it just brings up a no access allowed message.

Marc, if the Write option doesn't appear in My Writing Desk you are not logged in. Mary, you can't post for the same reason, (you posted your message as a visitor).
This will help you understand what has been going on and how to solve the problem:
The login issue is caused by the fact that for several months some Writelink members have created their own accounts on the blog site.
A short while ago we installed a new subscription management programme which has its own password system.
Our programmer has made the two “talk” to each other and while it works fine for new members joining the blog site, it doesn’t like the passwords existing members have set up! In other words there is a conflict!
Our programmer thinks this will eventually sort itself out, but if you have problems logging in again do the following:
1. Delete your Cookies.
2. Send for a new password. This will definitely work, but be very careful not to include additional spaces either before or after password or username.
The new password will be a string of numbers and letters which will be very difficult to remember! You can stick with this if you wish, but you can also change your password to something more meaningful.
Do this by logging into the site and selecting Profile from the My Writing Desk button at the top of the page.
DO NOT use the password you original set up when you registered with the blogs! Use a fresh password even if you just add a number to the one you normally use, e.g. applepie – applepie2 or something completely different.
There is no good reason why you should have to do this, but this seems to be helping!
